I received over the years a lot of e-mails from english speaking people who asked how to learn Bärndütsch. Unfortunately there was no good answer. But the tide has turned! Thanks to a newly published Bärndütsch-textbook, I would like to pick up this question again and give a revised answer.
Swiss German, the spoken language
Well, learning Bärndütsch is basically the same as learning another language, but with some additional barriers. These barriers arise from the fact that Bärndütsch (and Swiss German in general) is our native language to speak, but not to write*.
